How to Prepare Your Trading Card Inventory for the Holiday Rush

By Guinio Volpone

Trading cards, sealed boxes, and packing supplies arranged for holiday card selling

Black Friday, Cyber Monday, new releases, and a hard shipping deadline. Here's how to get your trading card inventory ready for the busiest selling season of the year—and how to survive it.

On November 27th, 2025, Whatnot sold more than $75 million worth of trading cards in a single day of live sales, roughly triple its total the year before. One sports card seller did more than $1 million in a single show, and first-time buyers on the platform quadrupled, according to Modern Retail. Over the same four-day Black Friday-Cyber Monday stretch, TikTok Shop topped $500 million in U.S. sales, and sellers who went live grew sales 84%.

Maybe we should start calling Black Friday and the surrounding shopping holiday ‘Green Friday’ instead.

Look, we all know the chaos of the holiday rush. The first flagship drop of the season is always hectic, but nothing beats Q4, and anyone with cards to sell, whether you're running a hobby shop or clearing out the closet before the in-laws arrive, has got to capitalize on the moment.

That’s why the team here at Mascot put together a checklist to help you plan around the holiday rush, because the best way to sell trading cards during the holidays is to prepare early: Get your inventory counted, priced, and listed on multiple marketplaces before Black Friday, plan around the year's biggest releases, and ship before the USPS holiday deadlines.

Here's how to make your list (and check it twice).

Know the Dates

Date What's happening
November 4th-6th Topps Cosmic Chrome Baseball, 2026-27 Topps Flagship Basketball, Topps Inception Football, and the Pokémon TCG's Delta Reign expansion all arrive at the start of the month. Collectors can’t catch ‘em all, so you’ll want to pick where your priorities lie ahead of time.
November 27th Black Friday
November 30th Cyber Monday
December Topps Chrome Basketball and Topps Chrome Football are currently listed for December. With the 2026 NBA draft class about as hyped up as it can possibly be, expect some serious demand around Chrome Basketball. Will a somewhat lackluster NFL draft class hinder Chrome Football, or is the pigskin still king?
December 17th This is a big one: USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail’s deadline for Christmas delivery. Lots of shoppers this time of year are buying holiday gifts, either as a treat for themselves or for others. You want to make sure their gift arrives in time so you don’t wind up processing returns.
December 18th USPS Priority Mail’s holiday deadline is just a day later, so don’t give yourself too much leeway when it comes to holiday shipping.
December 19th This is your last chance. USPS Priority Mail Express’s holiday deadline comes less than a week before the big day. Plan accordingly.

Who's Buying (and What They Want)

Holiday buyers come in two flavors:

  • The collectors: They know exactly what they want, they've been waiting for the deals—or product drops—and they're shopping for themselves (sorry, Mom). They'll be searching for specific players, sets, and grades, and comparing prices across platforms. With the first cards from the latest crop of NBA rookies about to hit shelves, expect to see this group dive head first into Topps Flagship Basketball and Topps Chrome Basketball.
  • The gift-givers: They know their nephew loves the Lions, or that their partner still talks about the Charizard they traded away in 1999. They're less likely to know the difference between a refractor and a base card, and more likely to buy something that's easy to understand.

Your holiday inventory should cover both: the specific singles collectors are chasing, and the easy wins gift-givers will grab. Make sure your listings are accurately described, priced, and pushed live before both segments start their search.

Your Holiday Prep Checklist

1. Count everything now: You can't sell what you can't find—or list. Mascot's AI scanner is offers unlimited scans on every plan, works with flatbed scanners to process multiple cards at once, and imports graded cards by cert number from PSA, CGC, SGC, and more. Mascot also tracks sealed product, so the hobby boxes and Elite Trainer Boxes in your back room can be listed alongside your singles.

2. Build gift-friendly bundles: From team and player lots, to starter sets, and "five rookies for $20", bundles are easy for gift-givers to understand. Want to know how to price your lots? We’ve got you covered.

3. Keep the sealed product sealed: Unopened boxes, packs, and tins are one of the easiest gifts in the hobby. If you've got them, list them before Thanksgiving.

4. Set your holiday pricing in advance: Mascot's Pricing Rules let you set a start price, a floor, and a scheduled markdown for your cards, so you can plan a Black Friday price drop on slower inventory without dipping below your minimum (or spending Thanksgiving night repricing cards by hand).

5. List your cards everywhere buyers are: Holiday shoppers are on eBay, in Whatnot streams, scrolling TikTok Shop, and browsing your own storefront. Mascot's multi-channel listing publishes each card to all of them at once and delists them everywhere when they sell. During the busiest week of the year, that's the difference between a happy buyer and a refund.

6. Let someone else answer the messages: Sales through the Mascot Network carry a low 3% fee, and Mascot handles the buyer communication. You print the prepaid label, pack the card, and ship it, while we take care of the rest.

7. Stock up on supplies: Penny sleeves, toploaders, team bags, and mailers go fast in December. For cards selling for $20 or less, the eBay Standard Envelope ships with tracking starting at $0.60, just make sure you pop the card into a penny sleeve and toploader, ideally wrapping it with a piece of paper so it doesn’t move around in the envelope, saving you a disgruntled buyer and/or a bad review.

8. Plan your own break: Even card sellers deserve a holiday. If you're stepping away, Mascot lets you put your Mascot Network listings on vacation mode, so nothing sells while you're away from the shipping table.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Between new Topps releases, a Pokémon expansion, the MLB World Series, the tipoff of the 2026-27 NBA season, the NFL rounding into midseason form, and the busiest shopping weekend of the year, November and December are beyond busy for card sellers. And busy is good, right?

However, you don't need to be one of Whatnot's million-dollar sellers—or so busy you miss sleep—to win the holidays. That rush starts now, and smart sellers can plan ahead by getting their inventory counted, priced, listed, and shipped before the holiday shipping cutoffs. Start your prepwork now, and let Mascot handle the busywork while you drink the eggnog.
